About Us

I have always had a foot in the fiber arts from sewing, embroidery, weaving, Navajo weaving, macrame, quilting, knitting, crochet, beading, blackwork... to name a few. Introduced to needlepoint in my early 20's, it became the thread art form I like the most.

I would experiment with batik or quilting, but I always came back to needlepoint. Something so zen about solving the world's problems in my head while stitching a great design for my home, friends or just for fun. The threads, the stitches, the canvases that you buy just to own, even the motion of tent basketweave has a soothing quality at times.

A man sitting next to me on a plane one time, watched for a while. Then leaned over and said said "Oh, I see, you just fill in the colors". I laughed and said "Yes, just painting with my thread". Needlepoint on airplanes and hotels saved me when I had that corporate job.

Life changes and I did too. After 9 years working retail and marketing at my local needlepoint shop, I have started a canvas painting business. I sell my hand painted designs to stitchers across the country, friends that I have made over these past several years. I can also create a custom piece that will add to your living room, match your rug or perhaps from artwork from your child.

Please feel free to send an email to email@BlueDogwoodDesigns.com with questions about stitchguides, canvases or a suggestion for your custom canvas.

I am a lover of all things dogwood. Four trees in my yard are various species. Red Twig dogwood bushes are a delight in each season. There is a groundcover, bunchberry, that is a dogwood variety that only grows in the Northwest.

From times long ago, the dogwood has had great symbolism and that is true for me personally.

My Blue Dogwood Designs is a labor of love and a desire to create that zen for others.

Thanks,

Kay
